about

Andrew Hemingway began painting more than forty years ago. He was born and brought up in the West Yorkshire town of Holmfirth, not far from where he still lives and works today.

He counts the artists of the Renaissance among his most significant influences. Their ability to turn their hands to diverse disciplines remains an inspiration to him. Following their example has led him to explore three-dimensional design, art-furniture and sculpture.

Best known for his still life paintings in pastel, and often labelled a “hyperrealist”, he nonetheless resists attempts to classify or pigeonhole his work. Abstraction has certainly played a major role in the last decade, and continues to be a dominant interest of his.

His work ethic and creative vision rarely wane, earning him the accolade of “modern master”.
