screwed

This is Hemingway's most recent work. In study form, he visited this subject a decade ago but he never persevered with it to exploit its abstraction. Now this mature series is what he always wanted to create. 'Screwed' features discarded envelopes forced into sculptural forms. The act of screwing up an envelope is largely without thought or care. Our indifference astonishingly can produce wonderful things. He likes that it has no particular design to it. Maybe aggression or indifference was the creator. Hemingway is a technophobe so the beauty of writing letters with pen and ink and receiving envelopes in the post with stamps on them is simply in a league of its own - email eat your heart out. The original studies were small works. The new pieces are very large.
